First Punjab Cabinet Meeting Begins, Critical Decisions To Fulfill Electoral Promises On Card

It is expected that in the first meeting, Punjab Cabinet will make some critical decisions.

New Delhi: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab administration's first Cabinet meeting has commenced in Chandigarh on Saturday.

It is expected that in the first meeting, Punjab Cabinet will make some critical decisions, news agency ANI reported.

As per sources, the Bhagwant Mann government is expected to decide in a Cabinet meeting to fulfil one of the Aam Admi Party's electoral pledges (AAP).

Among other electoral promises made by the AAP in Punjab, national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised to improve the condition of government schools and hospitals in the state, create job opportunities, provide free electricity up to 300 units per billing cycle, and provide Rs 1,000 per month to women over the age of 18.

He also vowed a clean administration and a crackdown on the state's drug problem.

Earlier on Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced the inauguration of an anti-corruption helpline in the state on 'Shaheed Diwas (Martyr's Day)' on March 23.

Mann stated that individuals will be able to file complaints about corruption using WhatsApp.

The AAP-led Punjab administration took the first move toward achieving the pledges it made in the run-up to the state Assembly elections — a corruption-free government and control of the drug crisis in the state that shares a border with Pakistan – a day after Mann took office.

Previously, on March 17, Punjab's newly-elected MLAs, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, took their oaths as Legislative Assembly members.

On March 16, the AAP leader and the party's face in the recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections took oath as the state's Chief Minister.

The AAP earned a huge victory in the recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections, taking 92 seats and driving most of its adversaries to the state's electoral boundaries.
