A batch of petitions had taken to the supreme court seeking removal of farmers who have been at the bordering areas of the national capital in protest against the three new agrarian laws.
The petitioners have been directed to make protesting farmer unions parties to the pleas.
In a hearing conducted via video conferencing, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde, and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian indicated that SC may form a committee that will include representatives of the central government and the farmer unions to resolve the concerns and issues erupted over the recently passed legislation.
"Your negotiations with protesting farmers have not worked apparently till now," the bench told the Centre.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that the government will not do anything against the interest of farmers.
Multiple pleas seeking authorities to immediately remove farmers from the border were filed complaining that commuters are facing hardships due to the road blockades and expressing fear that the gatherings may lead to an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases.
The matter has been posted for hearing on Thursday.
