New Delhi: As the farmer’s agitation is intensifying day by day, the twentieth day of the protest saw the death of four farmers of Punjab in two separate road accidents. Another farmer died of a heart attack at the agitation camp on the border of Delhi on Tuesday.

Saddened with the demise of five farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that the state government will provide assistance to the families of deceased farmers as well as take care of treatment of all the injured.

"Saddened to learn of the demise of our 5 farmers. Labh Singh Ji and Gurpreet Singh of Patiala met with an accident in Karnal, Sukhdev Singh and Deep Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib near Mohali, and Makkhan Khan of Moga who died of a heart attack in Delhi," Amarinder Singh tweeted.


“Punjab Government will provide all due assistance to the families of deceased farmers as well as take care of treatment of all the injured,” he further said


First accident in Karnal

The first accident took place in Karnal, in which two farmers from Patiala were killed early morning after their tractor-trolley was hit by a truck.

According to the local police, in the accident, which took place on Taraori flyover in Karnal, a third farmer was seriously injured while some others sitting on the trolley escaped with minor injuries.

The two farmers who died in the accident were aged around 24 and 50.

The police further said that one of the farmers traveling in the tractor trolley told them that the truck driver appeared to have fallen asleep behind the wheels which led to the accident.

After the accident, the truck driver fled from the spot, and a case under relevant provisions of law has been registered in connection with the incident.

The second accident took place in Mohali

The second accident took place in Mohali, in which two farmers lost their lives while seven others were injured. The accident happened when the farmer’s vehicle collided with a truck near Bhagomajra in Mohali on Tuesday.

Deep Singh was a resident of Mohali district while Sukhdev Singh Dadiana was a native of Fatehgarh Sahib district, lost their lives in the accident.

According to officials, out of the seven farmers, four have been seriously injured and have been referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and a government hospital in Chandigarh. While the other three are admitted to a hospital in Mohali

After the accident, the Health Minister of Punjab Balbir Singh Sindhu met the injured farmers and assured them every possible help.

The farmers’ protest in India, which has swelled up to become a mass protest now, erupting in the heartland of the country, New Delhi, has now clocked 20 days, with no breakthrough insight.
