NCP supremo and former agriculture minister Sharad Pawar on Tuesday accused the Centre of bulldozing three new farm laws without consulting states and asserted that agriculture cannot be run "sitting in Delhi" as it involves farmers toiling in distant villages.
In an interview with PTI, the former union minister said the government needs to take the protests seriously and it was "unfair" on the part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to blame opposition parties for the agitation by farmers.
Hundreds of farmers reached Patna on Tuesday and assembled near the Gandhi Maidan before they took out a mega march to the Bihar Raj Bhawan. District administration had placed barricades at Gandhi Maidan to prevent those already camping there for the last few days. Now with the added reinforcement more barricades was set up to block the farmers march from the historic ground.
As the farmers' protest against the three farm bills enter 34th straight day, the traffic situation at various Delhi borders remained unchanged. Singhu and Tikri borders were blocked while motorist movement at Delhi-Ghaziabad border and the Delhi-Noida border was normal.
Amid the intensifying protest held by the farmers against the three farm bills, reports emerged claiming that more than 1,561 mobile towers were targeted in Punjab during the farmers' stir.
Reacting at the development, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh directed the police to take strict action against vandalisation and disruption of telecom services.
Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary urged the protesting farmers to be ready for 'do or die battle' with the government for the withdrawal of the new agriculture laws.
As reported by PTI, the leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly while addressing a 'kisan ghera chaupal' in Saidpura village said that "till the withdrawal of the three controversial laws and MSP was not made mandatory, they should continue their 'aar-paar ki ladai' (do or die battle)."
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has now ordered the police to take stern action against such people.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee On Farmers' Protest
CM Mamata Banerjee in a statement on Monday said, "We are with the farmers. We demand the three draconian agriculture laws be withdrawn."

Social activist Anna Hazare has threatened to go on a hunger strike if his demands on issues concerning farmers are not met by January end. As quoted by news agency PTI, the 83-year-old said that it would be his 'last protest'.
"The government is just giving empty promises due to which I do not have any trust left (in the government)...Let's see, what action the Centre takes on my demands. They have sought time for a month, so I have given them time till January-end. If my demands are not met, I will resume my huger strike protest. This would be my last protest," Hazare said.

After using loudspeakers, social media and distributing leaflets to carry their voices of protest against the three farm laws, a group of youngsters camping at Delhi's Singhu border have found a new way of spreading their messages -- flying kites with slogans written on them.
These youngsters on Saturday flew kites -- bearing slogans like "No Farmer, No Food", "We are farmers, Not terrorists" - to carry their voices.
"Farmers of Haryana, Punjab, UP and Rajasthan are protesting against farm laws because PM Modi is doing injustice to them. Farmers of Madhya Pradesh are innocent but even Congressmen are sleeping. Wake up, join the stir and raise voices against these laws," Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said.
The Minimum Support Price announced by the government for crops is an administrative decision, which has has been working very well for decades and the arramgement would continue, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said here on Friday.

Maharashtra on Monday left for Delhi from Nashik to join the ongoing agitation by cultivators seeking the repeal of three agri laws passed by the Centre.
The farmers, who started off in private vehicles, were led by leaders of the Kisan Sabha.

In an effort to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) ongoing 'Kisan Sammelans', the Samajwadi Party (SP) is set to organise a special drive on December 25 during which its leaders will visit villages across Uttar Pradesh and make people aware about the "anti-farmer policies" of the BJP-led governments.

The Centre has invited representatives of the protesting farmers for fresh talks to end the deadlock as their agitation against the new farm laws entered its 26th day on Monday.
The letter, written by Joint Secretary, Agriculture, Vivek Aggarwal to the farmers' representatives who had earlier participated in talks with the government, said: "Please provide a list of apprehensions and give appropriate dates so fresh talks can be initiated in Vigyan Bhavan so that the protest ends soon."
Actor Sonu Sood on Friday said he is deeply saddened to see the plight of farmers protesting against the three new agri laws and hoped for a resolution to their issues.
"It feels very sad. I do know there is a solution to every problem. I was born and brought up in Punjab, I have spent time with farmers and I believe Punjabi community can be convinced with love if we give them time. (Punjabi kaum badi aasani se manai jaa sakti hai pyaar se agar hum inne samay de toh)," Sood said during a virtual session of "We The Women", where he was in conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt.
She said, "The Opposition leaders are saying that the three farm laws have been prepared by those who don't know anything about agriculture. So, I would like to ask whether Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are farmers? What was the pathetic condition of farmers in Amethi? One family was ruling there for the last 50 years but now the farmers in Amethi are moving towards prosperity."

The Congress on Friday said the government should stop "deceiving and betraying" farmers and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise to them for insulting those protesting against the recent farm laws by dubbing them as "anti-nationals".
