New Delhi: Triggering a fresh controversy with his recent statement on rape, BJP MLA of Uttar Pradesh Surendra Singh said that even Lord Rama could not stop the acts of rape.

He said: “I can bet on it that even if Lord Ram descended on Earth, it would still be impossible to control these incidences. This is an inherent pollution within the society and nobody is going to stay unaffected by it.”

He further said that in order to curtail it every person needs to consider every girl as his sister and respect her. Only cultural values can help to stop rapes.

Surendra Singh is an MLA from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and is known for his controversial remarks.

Earlier in June the motormouth MLA had made an attempt to vilify government officials in Uttar Pradesh as he went on to say that prostitutes are better than government staffers.

He had told his supporters in Patna: “Prostitutes are better than government officials; at least for money they do their work well and also entertain us by dancing on the stage. But these officials even after taking the money they will not guarantee of the work being done” he had said while addressing a gathering in Patna.
