New Delhi: Congress’ latest move attacking BJP has backfired, with the Congress IT cell head having to seek a public apology.

In its attempt to take on PM Modi, Congress uploaded a video showing BJP’s in-party differences, claiming that the video was of PM’s recent Jaipur rally, but it later turned out that the video was an old one. The Congress IT cell head Divya Spandana had to later apologise for the mistake.

At first, when Congress failed to upload the video on Facebook, it attacked IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Congress tweeted: “Hey Facebook, we're unable to upload this video on our facebook page (link) Can you tell us why? Or should we ask @rsprasad?”

Later when it as able to, Congress tweeted “While PM Modi is gaining control of @facebook, he's losing control of his cadre. Open infighting on display at PM Modi's Jaipur rally.”

“Modi, we do not despise you, Vasundhara, you will not be spared.  But Modi will suffere because of you Vasundhara,” several people can be heard raising slogans against the Rajasthan chief minister, in the video.

However after the video was shared widely, it was found out that the video dated back to March 8, 2018. It was a public event in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan where with Vasundhra Raje, PM Modi was present to launch the National Nutrition Mission and extend the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

Divya Spandana who had also shared the video on her Twitter handle had to apologise after the false claim of the video was brought to light.  However , she did not miss out the chance to hit out at the party even after that.

She admitted that the video was old and expressed surprise that BJP Rajasthan has been facing troubles within the party for a long time now.

She tweeted: “Apologies: apparently this video is from March and not yesterday...gosh Rajasthan BJP lost it that long back??”

BJP’s IT head Amit Malviya dubbed Congress’ move a self-goal. He wrote on Twitter: “Congress scores a self goal (as always) on Twitter. Claims a 5-month-old video is from the prime minister’s rally in Jaipur on Saturday”

Divya Spandana who was ready with her answer responded: “Yes we did make that mistake. But the content is real. Will you acknowledge Amit? Be a man, you can :)”
