Etah, Uttar Pradesh: In a tragic incident, 14 people lost their lives and 24 got severely injured as a mini bus which was returning from a wedding toppled down into a canal after crashing into a fence.


The incident took place in the early hours of Friday. As per reports, the person behind the wheel was in a drowsy state and absentmindedly lost control of the vehicle and barged into the fence.

The family was reportedly returning to the city of Agra from Sakrauli village in Kushinagar and was travelling in a hired mini bus, which could accommodate a large number of passengers.

Soon after the incident, a huge rescue operation was launched and the injured were rushed to the nearby Jalesar Primary health care centre.

Another such incident took place in Etah in January, where a school bus collided with a lorry killing at least 15 school children amid dense fog on Aliganj-Paliyali road.

The students were studying in JS Vidyaniketan School which had opened despite the district magistrate’s orders to keep all schools closed in view of intense cold.

The mishap had occurred near Asadnagar village under Aliganj Kotwali police station area in Etah, which is four hours drive from the national capital.
