New Delhi: A security alert was triggered in the national capital on Thursday when a grenade was found in the premises of heritage building Red Fort.


Though the grenade found was diffused but, it brought security personnel on their toes. It was recovered during a routine security check on Thursday evening.

The grenade raised several questions post which a team of National Security Agency and District Commissioner of Police (DCP) were alerted who reached the spot and a massive search was launched to sweep the area.

Red Fort is crowded with hundreds tourists and local visitors even on regular weekdays. The security agencies thereafter took the grenade to the lab for further investigation.

It has become important for the security agencies to find out if it belonged to the World War era or was recently used.

Earlier in February, ammunition and boxes of explosives were found during cleaning of a well inside Red Fort. The discovery triggered panic, prompting police to cordon off the area and inform the NSG
