EESL to give out 9MW LED bulbs to Delhi consumers from July

New Delhi: State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) announced on Sunday that the capital's consumers will be distributed 9W light emitting diode (LED) bulbs from the first week of July. The distribution, under the government's Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (Ujala) scheme, will be at a discounted rate of Rs 75 per bulb to household and commercial consumers across Delhi, EESL said in a statement here. "The 7W LED bulbs, that were distributed as a part of this scheme earlier, will no longer be available for sale. "But consumers who face any technical issues with the 7W bulbs can get them replaced with fresh 7W LEDs from dedicated replacement centres," it said. "These technically superior 9MW LED bulbs help save anywhere between Rs 160 to Rs 400 per bulb annually and has a life expectancy of 25,000 hours, thus making the cost recovery lesser than a year," it added. The UJALA scheme will be implemented in 87 circles in Delhi. EESL said the response to UJALA has been exceptional from Delhi and over 66 lakh LED bulbs have already been distributed earlier, resulting in an annual energy savings of 86 crore kWh.
