New Delhi: An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Ladakh on Sunday, news agency PTI reported. No loss of life or property was reported in the region, the officials said. 


The epicenter of the earthquake was at latitude 36.02 degrees north and longitude 77.33 degrees east at a depth of 30 km at 2:53 pm on Sunday afternoon, the officials added. 


The National Centre for Seismology also shared the details about the earthquake via Twitter. 


“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.2, Occurred on 24-04-2022, 14:53:49 IST, Lat: 36.02 & Long: 77.33, Depth: 30 Km, Location: 195km NNE of Kargil, Laddakh, India,” the tweet read. 






Ladakh was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on Friday, April 22 as well according to the National Centre for Seismology. 


“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.2, Occurred on 22-04-2022, 18:50:15 IST, Lat: 36.65 & Long: 77.03, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 246km NNE of Kargil, Laddakh, India,” it has tweeted. 


On April 18, an earthquake of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter scale hit the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir. The earthquake, with a depth of 10 km, jolted the region at 12.59 pm.


“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.4, Occurred on 18-04-2022, 12:09:59 IST, Lat: 33.41 & Long: 76.42, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir, India,” National Centre for Seismology had posted on Twitter on April 18.
