The accused mahant further commented that he is ready to go to jail a thousand times and face many attacks, in order to safeguard his religion and women.
Bajrang Muni Das is the mahant of Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasi Ashram in Khairabad town of Sitapur.
A video of his speech made outside a mosque on April 2 targetting Muslims had been widely circulated on social media, causing an uproar.
In the video, he could be heard referring to the community as "jehadi". Addressing the locals, he could be heard issuing a threat that if a Muslim harasses any girl in the area, he would kidnap Muslim women and rape them publically.
In a video following the controversy, he defended his remarks saying, "There are 80 per cent Muslims, 20 per cent Hindus in Khairabad. Hindus' condition in such a situation needn't be told. During our 'kalash yatra', they were prepared with sticks and stones to repeat Karauli-like incident but due to police, it didn't happen", news agency ANI reported.
He claimed the video was fabricated to frame him under false charges: "If they'll harass our daughters, their daughters won't be safe too. The video is distorted to fabricate me under false charges."
Prashant Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) Uttar Pradesh had promised stringent action against the accused.
