New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale struck Assam on Sunday evening, news agency ANI reported.
As per National Center of Seismology, the location was Nagaon. The earthquake occurred at 4:18 pm at a depth of 10 kilometres.
"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on February 12, 2023, 16:18:17 IST, Lat: 26.10 & Long: 92.72, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nagaon, Assam, India," it said in a tweet.
As of now, there are no details regarding any impact or damage from the 4.0 magnitude earthquake.
The Assam earthquake, likely a minor one, comes close on the heels of the massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitude, which left a trail of devastation in its wake in Turkey and Syria earlier this week.
Over 25,000 people are confirmed to have died in the two countries in the seismological disaster which saw two more powerful earthquakes within 24 hours of the first one.
Earlier this month, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hit Manipur's Ukhrul, the National Center for Seismology informed. The earthquake occurred at 6.14 am on February 4, the NCS said.

Meanwhile, India's merchandise exports of commodities such as cotton, manmade yarn, and textile dyes may be impacted in the short run to earthquake-hit Turkiye, according to reports.
Federation of Indian Export Organisations (Fieo) Director General Ajay Sahai said that the extent of the damage in Turkiye is yet not known and thus its impact on exports is difficult to ascertain.
"Since the textile manufacturing centres of Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras provinces are worst-affected, our exports of cotton and manmade yarn and textile dyes may be impacted in short run," Sahai said.
