Earthquake: 4.0 magnitude quake hits Delhi-NCR

Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and other areas. Sonipat, Haryana is reported to be the epicenter of the quake.

New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale hit parts of North India on Sunday afternoon. Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and other areas. Sonipat, Haryana is reported to be the epicentre of the quake. People panicked because of the tremors but no casualty has been reported as of now. The tremors were felt around 3.37 pm. Haryana is neighbouring state of Delhi and many parts of the former is counted in the National Capital Region (NCR). According to the Centre for Seismology, an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Ritcher scale and epicentre at a point 28.9 degrees north latitude and 77 degrees East, in Haryana's Sonepat district.  The quake, classified as moderate, was at a depth of 5 km. Watch Video: The earthquake in Delhi-NCR comes days after neighbouring Himachal Pradesh was jolted by tremors on June 26. A low-intensity earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale had hit Himachal Pradesh last Tuesday. It was the fourth in June, as per the report. There were, however, no reports of any damage. The earthquake's epicentre was again Chamba region, bordering Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, the epicenters of the quakes were once in Shimla and thrice in Chamba regions. They occurred on June 14, 17 and 23.
