As Mahalaya dawned on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a rainy week for Bengal till the beginning of the Durga Puja on Maha Sashti. The rainy spell is likely to continue till at least October 9, the day of Maha Sashti, as per the IMD forecast.
The Regional Meteorological Department, Kolkata, predicted a cloudy sky and light to moderate rain/thundershower in some areas of the city on Wednesday. The minimum temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to hover around the 31˚C-mark.
Weather Warnings For North Bengal, South Bengal Till Durga Puja
A low pressure in the Bay of Bengal caused heavy rain and floods in several areas of South Bengal last week. Despite the forecast for a wet spell, Bengal can breathe easy as the likelihood of heavy rain has passed. According to the weather department, light to moderate rain may occur in isolated areas of all the districts of North Bengal and South Bengal till next Sunday (October 9), the beginning of Durga Puja 2024.
There is no warning of adverse weather in Bengal so far. However, the possibility of 'thunderstorms with lightning' in some places of Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia in South Bengal cannot be ruled out. Eight districts in North Bengal — Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda — may get 'thunderstorms with lightning' for three more days.
The seven-day weather forecast issued by the IMD said, "Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places," for all days till October 9.
