DSP Rank Officer, Three Others Injured As Amarnath Yatra Security Convoy Vehicle Skids Off Road On Jammu-Srinagar NH

A deputy superintendent of J&K police was among four policemen injured after a vehicle which was a part of Amarnath Yatra security met with an accident near Bali Nallah in Udhampur along Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Udhampur Dr Vinod Kumar said that the four injured were taken to the District Hospital Udhampur for treatment, according to ANI. The police have not yet given an explanation as to how the accident occurred. 

The vehicle fell into a drain along the sides of the road on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, near Bali Nallah in Udhampur. The vehicle was seen pressed against a wall and tilted on one side which was crushed by the impact. 

According to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar, four people were injured in the accident, and have been shifted to Udhampur District Hospital for treatment.

"Among those injured also includes a deputy superintendent of police," SSP Kumar said.

The first batch of Amarnath Yatris left on Friday morning after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha waved off the first batch of pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu. 

The first batch of pilgrims left the twin base camps in Kashmir to undertake a pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the south Kashmir Himalayas. The 62-day-long pilgrimage is set to begin from Kashmir on July 1 from the twin tracks – the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district. Over 3,500 pilgrims have arrived in Jammu for the Amarnath journey. 

A multi-tier security has been set up in and around the Bhagwati Nagar base camp. The security measures have been taken over together by the Army and the police.

LG Sinha visited the yatri niwas base camp on Thursday night and reviewed arrangements put in place for the pilgrims, as per PTI. 

The registration of unregistered pilgrims and sadhus arriving here from all parts of the country has begun on the spot at the counter here, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nargesh Singh told PTI. Five counters have been established for the Tatkal registration of the pilgrims at Vaishnavi Dham, Mahajan Sabha, Panchayat Ghar and two at Geeta Bhawan and Ram Mandir for the registration of sadhus.
