Door-To-Door Vaccination Drive: No Shotage Of Jabs, Last Mile Difficult Says Task Force Official

There are currently 134 million beneficiaries, who have not taken the second dose of the vaccine even though the time of prescribed interval between the first and the second dose has already passed. 

New Delhi: Ahead of the proposed door-to-door vaccination drive the National Covid Task Force has informed that there is no shortage of vaccines as they will procure nearly 30 crore vaccines, 25 crore doses of Covishield and 5 crore doses of Covaxin, from manufacturers every month.

However, the task force has also said that last-mile delivery still remains a challenge.

In a report by the Times of India Dr. NK Arora an official from the task force said that there is no shortage of vaccines for the month-long door-to-door vaccination drive. He expressed concern about reaching people in different terrains and also about the demographics that have yet to receive vaccination due to various reasons. He also mentioned that while the drive is for a month it will be extended to another month.

He said that another concern is that there are still people who are hesitant of taking the vaccine, he also explained that daily wage workers, for instance, have not been able to go to vaccination centres for the fear of losing out on a day’s work missing that day’s pay. 

Dr. Arora explained said that are currently 134 million beneficiaries, who have not taken the second dose of the vaccine even though the time of prescribed interval between the first and the second dose has already passed. 

The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also stressed the need to get both doses of the vaccine. According to the minister, “More than 10 crore people have not taken the second dose of vaccine. People who are eligible for the second dose should take the vaccine.”

Stressing on the need to boost the pace and coverage of vaccination, the minister said there are more than 10.34 crore people in the country who have not taken the second dose after the prescribed interval,” said.

India reported 12,729 new Covid-19 infections and 221 related fatalities, and the cumulative caseload touched 34,333,754 and the death toll climbed to 459,873, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare on Friday.
