Demonetisation: Arvind Kejriwal moves resolution in assembly; Mamata, Shiv Sena & Omar to meet President

New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, on Tuesday, moved a resolution in the assembly urging President to direct Centre to withdraw demonetisation scheme while condemning "the way PM Narendra Modi has chosen to demonetise currency". He called for an immediate rollback of the demonetisation decision which has led to cash chaos across the country. "Some people are queuing up the whole night... Everyone is in the queues. Even BJP people, Congress people, even Aam Aadmi Party people...", he said reported IANS. Mamata, Shiv Sena & Omar Abdullah on the same plank: Meanwhile, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also planned to meet the President of India. "The situation is serious; will meet the President tomorrow, no matter what," said Mamata Banerjee, reported ANI. "Shiv Sena also assured us to join tomorrow's meeting with President over the issue of demonetisation", she said. "Irrespective of other parties joining or not, I will meet Pranab Mukherjee tomorrow on demonetisation issue", Mamata said. She also hit at the indelible ink step of the government and said-"Black mechanism with indelible ink shows this govt distrusts the common people", reported PTI. However, Sitaram Yechury appeared a bit soft on demonitization and clarified-"We are not demanding a roll back but proper implementation". Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal & ex-J&K CM Omar Abdullah will also go with WB CM Mamata Banerjee to meet President, said All India Trinamool Congress's Derek O'Brien, reported ANI. Say how you will deal with cash chaos: SC tells government The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to explain the steps it has taken or will take to deal with the chaos outside banks and ATMs following the demonetisation move. Observing that people should not suffer, Chief Justice T.S Thakur and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, however, said they would not interfere with the government policy. Seeking a reply from the government, the court fixed November 25 as the next date of hearing. The government on November 8 spiked the 500 and 1,000 rupees notes in a bid to fight black money and corruption. Rumours of anti-demonetisation strike baseless: Government The Finance Ministry on Tuesday dismissed as baseless rumours that some institutions were planning a strike against demonetisation and said technology teams will be set up to hasten the pace of recalibrating ATMs. "Don't believe rumours spread on the social media about certain institutions going on strike," Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das told reporters here. "On zooming the (strike) picture on the social media, it was found to be from 2015," he added. (With inputs from agencies)
