New Delhi: A firing incident took place outside Rohini Court on Friday as a constable from the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) opened fire on the ground following a scuffle between two lawyers and their one client, reported news agency ANI reported. When the NAP constable tried to control the situation, a bullet was fired at the ground. The police are still investigating if it was an accidental fire.
“A quarrel between two advocates, namely Sanjeev Chaudhary and Rishi Chopra, and a public person named Rohit Beri took place at around 9.40 AM as they entered gate number eight (8)," said Delhi Police.
Post the incident, the lawyers demanded a security review and a strict probe into the incident.
“We are deeply anguished with whatever has happened in the court today. While a few lawyers were trying to calm the situation involving a client misbehaving with his advocate, this policeman came with his AK 47 and shot fire at the ground. The pieces of the fired bullet shell have injured one of the advocates near the stomach and a local man," said Advocate Rajeev Tehlan, Ex-president, Rohini Court Bar Association.
The Delhi police also reported no casualties but two minor injuries. The police told ANI that the injuries were caused due to “concrete projectiles as a result of the fire.”
An officer told news agency PTI that an investigation is underway to determine whether it was an accidental firing or not. Post the gunshot, a panic was taken over the court complex, however, the situation was controlled soon.
