Delhi: Sikh tempo driver & son thrashed by police, narrate their ordeal

Reports say the Sarabjeet and his son Balwant’s tempo had bumped into a police vehicle in Mukherjee Nagar area last evening following which an argument broke out.

New Delhi: All those policemen who assaulted him and his son Balwant brutally on Sunday deserve stringent punishment, demands Sarabjeet Singh, a tempo driver, as he narrates his ordeal to ABP News. Three cops were suspended after the video of the duo being beaten up went viral and gained national attention. The matter was vigorously taken up by the Sikh community which protested outside the Mukherjee police station on Sunday night where the father and son were dragged to and locked. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visited the house of the injured driver and offered support. Condemning the incident, he said, the errant cops must face strict action. Action against cops must act as a deterrent: Sarabjeet Singh Speaking to ABP News after being released, Sarabjeet said, “I did not use any kind of objectionable language against the policemen. I don't understand why I was beaten up. They were in uniforms so were misusing the powers. It was clear display of their arrogance in uniform. Policemen must not forget their duty is to serve and protect us, not thrash public. Today it is us; tomorrow it will be someone else. It is therefore important for them to face punishment so that it acts as a deterrent and in future a policeman would think 10 times before doing anything like this.
