Delhi Reports 1,375 Fresh Covid Cases In Last 24 Hrs, Maharashtra Logs 4,024 Infections

Mumbai alone reported 2,293 new Covid-19 cases and one death linked to infection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in its daily health bulletin.

After weeks of decline, Delhi has once again started witnessing a slight surge in Covid-19 cases with the city reporting 1,375 new Covid cases on Wednesday, while the positivity rate rose to 7.01 per cent, state health bulletin data revealed. No deaths were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. With the new cases, Delhi's tally of Covid-19 cases increased to 19,15,905 and the death toll stood at 26,223.

This is the second consecutive day that Delhi has recorded over 1,100 cases in a day. On Tuesday, Delhi had logged 1,118 cases and two deaths while the positivity rate was at 6.50 per cent whereas on Monday, the city had reported 614 new COVID-19 cases and zero death due to the disease, while the positivity rate stood at 7.06 per cent.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra logged 4,024 fresh Covid cases, 3,028 recoveries and two deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the state now stands at 19,261. According to the latest report of BJ Medical College, Pune, 4 patients of BA.5 variant have been reported in the state.

These patients are from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Thane. All these patients are women in the age group of 19 to 35 years and were found Covid-19 positive during May 26 to June 9 and are stable at present.

Earlier in the day, Union Health Ministry informed that India reported 8,822 fresh Covid cases in last 24 hours, a steep rise against 6,594 infections on previous day. During the same period, 15 Covid deaths were recorded taking the nationwide toll to 5,24,792.

Meanwhile, the active caseload has risen to 53,637 cases, accounting for 0.12 per cent of the total positive cases. The recovery of 5,718 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,26,67,088. Consequently, the country's recovery rate stands at 98.66 per cent.

As of Wednesday morning, the Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 195.50 crore, achieved via 2,51,27,455 sessions. Over 3.53 crore adolescents have been administered with a first dose of Covid-19 jab since the beginning of vaccination drive for this age bracket.
