Delhi Ready To Handle 1 Lakh Daily Cases, 2 Months Of Covid Drugs In Stock: Kejriwal On Omicron Threat

During a press conference after the review meeting, Kejriwal urged people with mild Covid-19 symptoms to stay at home and do not rush to hospitals.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing threat of new Covid-19 variant Omicron, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness and management to tackle any possible surge of the super mutant in the capital city.

During the meeting, Kejriwal said that the Delhi government has created a capacity to conduct 3 lakh Covid-19 tests daily. He also said that his government can handle as many as 1 lakh daily cases if such a situation arises.

"We're strengthening our home isolation management protocol," Delhi CM said.

During a press conference after the meeting, Kejriwal urged people with mild Covid-19 symptoms to stay at home and do not rush to hospitals.

Under Delhi government's home isolation module, Kejriwal said, healthcare workers will visit patients at their residence, conduct tele-counselling and also give a kit containing Oximeter etc to them.

Currently, Delhi has 64 cases of Omicron. The review meeting focused on the availability of beds, oxygen, medicines along with isolation wards if needed.

Meanwhile, in the view of rising cases of Coronavirus in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has put a ban on all kinds of gatherings on Christmas and New Year in the national capital.

"As per the DDMA order, all social, political, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, and festival-related gathering and congregations are completely prohibited in Delhi," the DDMA order read.

India Omicron Tally

Omicron infection tally has climbed to 236 across the nation. However, out of the total Omicron positive, 104 have been discharged after they recovered, the data released by Health Ministry stated. So far, 16 states have reported Omicron infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to hold a review meeting on the Covid related situation in the country later in the day.

Centre has asked the states and Union Territories to 'activate war rooms and keep analysing all trends and surges, no matter how small and keep taking proactive measures at the district or local level'.

Health Ministry has also cautioned states that the new Covid variant Omicron is three times more transmissible than the Delta variant.
