An Indian Express report quoted some official sources saying that the room where the incident happened is used by the Chief Minister himself. Several meetings have been held there over the past months, especially during the pandemic. CM's Chamber which is like a 'war room' during meetings and remains abuzz with activity was luckily empty when the mishap occurred.
According to the reports, repair work of the roof was immediately started however, another major mishap was averted when the roof of the adjacent toilet collapsed too, developing cracks in the wall and bricks coming loose. Fortunately no one was present there at the time of the incident.
Reports quoted sources informing that the building which is now CM Kejriwal's residence was built in 1942. Some portion or the other of the 80 year old building is under repair throughout the year.

Post tragic incident, the structural safety audit was soon commissioned and meanwhile, Public Works Department (PWD) has been tasked with making the buildings within the CM’s residence structurally sound. Based on the findings of the audit, the future course of action will be decided. The actions could be many ranging from a complete renovation to targeted repair works.
CM Kejriwal moved into the North Delhi's house in March 2015 in his second term. Till his first term in 2014, Kejriwal was allotted a three-bedroom house in Tilak Lane. In his second term, he shifted to the Civil Lines house which has five bedrooms and a separate office space. In the past, the house was allotted to former deputy speaker Amrish Singh Gautam.
