New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a wet spell over Northwest India over the next two days which would move towards central India by January 9. While cold wave conditions are not likely over Northwestern India and the temperature is likely to rise, dense fog can be witnessed over East Uttar Pradesh in the next 24 hours.
According to the Met department, the western disturbance has induced “cyclonic circulation has formed over southwest Rajasthan & adjoining Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels.”
Under its influence, fairly widespread moderate rainfall or snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayan region over January 5 and 6. Isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 5.
It will be most likely followed by moderate rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, north Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, south Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh until January 6.
Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms are also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh on January 5 and over East UP, and West Madhya Pradesh on January 6.
As per the IMD prediction, the minimum temperature will remain 2-5 degrees Celsius above the normal over northwest India, mostly in West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Added to that there will be a gradual rise in temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius over most parts of Northwest and Central India in the next two to three days.
However, dense fog during morning and night hours in isolated pockets can be experienced in East UP, and over East Indian regions of Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, West Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
