According to police officials, a prepared note addressed to the Israeli ambassador was discovered near the explosion location behind the embassy grounds, PTI reported.
The letter contains "abusive" language. They stated it was transported to a forensic lab to be checked for fingerprints. "It's a one-page letter written in English. It is suspected to be related to some organisation," a police source was quoted by PTI in its report.
"Today at 5:53 pm, a PCR call was received conveying the information that a loud sound was heard from the back side of the Israel Embassy. Considering the sensitivity of the location and the mention of explosion-type sound, senior officers rushed to the location. In close follow-up, the dog squad, crime team and BDS team of Delhi Police reached the spot where the alleged sound of the explosion was reported to have been heard. The area was cordoned off and subjected to a thorough search. The experts have examined the spot and lifted exhibits that may have evidentiary relevance, the same are being sent for forensic examination. Further enquiry is in progress," Delhi Police stated in a statement, ANI reported.
Israel Embassy's security team inspected the area near the embassy after receiving information about an explosion, PTI reported.
"We can confirm that around 5:10 pm there was a blast at close proximity to the embassy. Delhi Police and the security team are still investigating the situation," Israel's Embassy stated.
Speaking about the incident, Deputy Ambassador of Israel to India, Ohad Nakash Kaynar said: "This is evening several minutes after 5, an explosion occurred in close proximity of the Embassy. All our diplomats and workers are safe. Our security teams are working in full cooperation with local Delhi security and they will investigate the matter further."
"I heard a blast at about 5 pm. I came outside and saw smoke coming out from near a tree. It was a loud blast," says Teju Chitri, security guard of Central Hindi Training Institute on reported blast near Israel Embassy.
The police are examining the area for any clues or suspects, according to the news agency PTI. The type and strength of the blast remain unknown at this time. So yet, no fatalities or injuries have been recorded.
The Israel Embassy is housed in a high-security diplomatic compound near India Gate. The police have roped off the area and are investigating the incident.
The purported explosion was reported to authorities by an unnamed caller to the Delhi Fire Service in the evening today, India Today reported. According to the caller, an explosion occurred on an empty site behind the Israeli Embassy.
Following that, a police special cell team, along with the bomb squad, arrived at the scene to conduct an examination. When officials searched the area, they discovered nothing unusual.
The caller's identity and motivation are now being investigated. A thorough investigation is currently underway.
