The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) office in Mumbai on Tuesday received a bomb threat. The threat, which included warnings of bombs at HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, was delivered through an email. The communication demanded the resignation of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The email was purportedly sent by "Khilafat India" and threatened financial institutions alleging a major "scam" in the country.

The threatening email, received on Tuesday afternoon, warned of bomb placements at a total of 11 locations in Mumbai. Authorities were alerted, and initial reports hinted at the possibility of a bomb blast by 2:15 pm. However, thorough searches by the police across all mentioned locations did not reveal any suspicious items. The Mumbai Police subsequently filed a case at the MRA Marg Police Station to investigate the matter.

ABP News has accessed a purported copy of the threatening email wherein Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been accused of being involved in the "biggest scam in the history of India" along with the RBI and the private banks. The threatening email demanded the resignation of both RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

After the RBI received the threatening email, Mumbai Police initiated a thorough search operation with the help of the bomb squad, though no explosive materials were discovered at the mentioned locations.

The Mumbai Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, closely coordinating with RBI officials to ensure the safety of the targeted institutions. The police control room has been actively monitoring such threats, but the threat issued to RBI has prompted an expedited response.

The threat serves as a grim reminder of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, masterminded by fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, which claimed 257 lives and grievously injured over 700, with some people suffering disabilities. The fateful date was March 12, 1993, when 12 blasts were orchestrated at 12 different places in the city, the first of their kind in the world.
