Delhi Acid Attack: Flipkart Blacklists Seller After Police Reveal Chemical Was Bought On Portal

Flipkart said that it has blacklisted the seller sold the acid used to attack a 17-year-old girl in Delhi on Wednesday.

Online marketplace Flipkart has blacklisted the business that allegedly sold the acid used to attack a 17-year-old girl in Delhi this week. Three people, including the prime accused, have been arrested so far. The trio has been remanded to two-day police custody.

A Flipkart spokesperson said: "The concerned seller has been blacklisted and we are extending all support to the concerned authorities in their investigation." The Delhi Police had earlier said that the acid was purchased on Flipkart by the accused named in the Dwarka acid attack case.

On Wednesday, two masked men on a motorcycle threw acid on a Class 12 student minutes after she left her west Delhi home for school on Wednesday morning, leaving her seriously injured.

The Delhi Commission for Women also wrote to the CEOs of online marketplaces Flipkart and Amazon in connection with the acid attack case on the 17-year-old girl in the national capital after "the commission learnt that the accused person had bought acid through the online shopping portal Flipkart".

"The Commission has learnt that the accused person had bought acid through the online shopping portal 'Flipkart'. The Commission has also learnt that acid is easily available on leading online shopping platforms such as 'Amazon' and 'Flipkart' which is illegal. The ease of availability of acid on online platforms is a matter of grave concern and needs to be checked urgently," the Commission's letter stated.

The panel also asked if photo IDs were asked by people purchasing the acid and reason if not.

In its letter, the DCW also sought information on policy adopted by these companies on sale of government regulated products online and steps taken to remove restricted items including acid from the online portal.

The accused probably threw nitric acid on the victim, which was ordered on Flipkart. However, the type of acid used in the crime will be confirmed after a forensic examination, police said.
