New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. Informing about it on Twitter, Rajnath Singh said he had mild symptoms and was under home quarantine.


He has also requested those who came in contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested.


"I have tested positive for Corona today with mild symptoms. I am under home quarantine. I request everyone who have recently come in my contact to isolate themselves and get tested," Rajnath Singh tweeted.



Several MPs and a handful of ministers have been infected with Covid-19 amid a rise in cases in various parts of the country mainly driven by the Omicron variant.


Last week, Minister for Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey was hospitalised after contracting Covid-19. Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar tested positive on Thursday.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also tested positive last week, a day after he attended an event where chiefs of Central Armed Police Forces were present. The development has raised concerns about a possible spread of infection among personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).


Chiefs of CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF and SSB were present at the event. Representatives of NSG and the Assam Rifles were also present.


Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal were also among those who tested positive for Covdi-19 last week. Several Central government officials have also been hit by the infection.


India saw a single-day rise of 1,79,723 coronavirus infections on Monday, including 4,033 cases of the Omicron variant reported across 27 states and union territories so far, according to data by the Union Health Ministry.
