Cyclone Hamoon: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that cyclonic storm 'Hamoon' has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The weatherman said the cyclone is likely to continue moving in a north-northeastward direction. The storm will make landfall on the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong on October 25, 2023, as a deep depression. Meanwhile, the weather agency has issued rain alerts in seven states, which will see the impact of the cyclone.

The warnings say rain is likely at most places in the northeastern states of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and south Assam from Oct 24-26. Heavy rainfall is expected in Mizoram on October 24, with even heavier showers anticipated in Tripura. Heavy rain is likely to continue in the regions on October 25, which will decrease by October 26, with light to moderate rainfall at a few places.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in south Assam and eastern Meghalaya on October 24-25, with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in south Assam, according to IMD. The coastal districts of Odisha will most likely witness light to moderate rainfall at most places on Tuesday, October 24.

The coastal districts of West Bengal may see light to moderate rainfall at most places on October 24, with isolated heavy rainfall over coastal areas of West Bengal.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture in eastcentral and north Bay of Bengal and along Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and north Myanmar coasts on Oct 24-25. The sea conditions across the Bay of Bengal on Oct 24 and Oct 25 will be high to very high, the IMD said in its bulletin.
