Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, August 9, Monday: The drive has been launched to vaccinate as many people as possible said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Uttarakhand government on Monday announced that COVID curfew will be imposed in the state from August 10, 6 am to August 17, 6 am.
Health Ministry has decided to allow foreign nationals residing in India to get registered on CoWin portal to take the COVID vaccine. They can use their passport as an ID for registration on CoWIN. Once they're registered on this portal, they'll get a slot for vaccination, the ministry informed.

A notification issued by the chief secretary on Friday said the weekend shutdown imposed in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri towns will be relaxed up to 11.00 AM on August 15 to allow citizens to hoist the National Flag at their premises. 16.11 lakh vaccine doses were administered in India on August 8 2021, the Union Health Ministry's latest provisional report suggested. With that, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 50.84 crore.
The country took 85 days to touch the figure of 10 crore. It then took 45 days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crore. India took another 24 days to reach 40 crore and 20 more days to cross 50 crore vaccinations, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said.
With 35,499 more people testing positive for COVID-19, India's infection tally now stands at 3,19,69,954, while the death toll climbed to 4,28,309 with 447 fresh fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry on Monday.
The number of active cases has declined to 4,02,188 which comprise 1.27 per cent of the total infections, and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 97.39 per cent, data updated by the ministry at 8 am showed.
A decrease of 4,634 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,11,39,457, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34 per cent, the data stated.
As many as 13,71,871 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the country on Sunday, taking the total number of such examinations so far to 48,17,67,232.

With the recovery of 1,914 patients recoveries outnumbered 1,598 fresh Covid cases and Dakshina Kannada district bordering Kerala surpassing Bengaluru in positive cases in Karnataka, according to the Health Department on Sunday.
"With 1,598 new cases registered on Saturday, the state's Covid tally rose to 29,18,525, including 23,930 active cases, while 28,57,776 recovered, with 1,914 patients discharged during the day," said the bulletin.
As epi-centre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru reported 348 fresh cases on Saturday, taking the city's Covid tally to 12,30,486 including 8,493 active cases, while 12,06,078 recovered so far, with 366 patients discharged in the last 24 hours.
With 438 positive cases registered on Saturday, Dakshina Kannada, bordering Covid-hit Kerala on the state's west coast, surpassed Bengaluru in new cases, followed by 129 in Udupi, 98 in Mysuru, 83 in Kodagu, 80 in Hassan, 53 in Uttara Kannada and 52 in Chikkamagaluru and remaining are from across the state.

“80 per cent of the samples sent for genome sequencing had tested positive for the Delta Plus variant (of coronavirus). The 45 patients are from Jalgaon (13), Ratnagiri (11), Mumbai (6), Thane (5), Pune (3), and one each from Palghar, Sindhudurg, Sangli. Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, and Beed," the department said in a statement.
Of these 45 samples, information about 35 patients have been taken by the health department. One death was reported while the rest of the patients reported mild to medium type symptoms, it said.
The Kerala government will hold a mass inoculation drive across the state starting from Monday in view of the high number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases. The drive will go on till August 31, according to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The focus will be on inoculating final year degree students, PG students, lower primary and upper primary teachers. The first dose of vaccination for senior citizens will be completed by August 15. Patients with comorbidity will be vaccinated at home.

The Covid vaccination certificate can now be obtained via WhatsApp within seconds, the Union Health Ministry informed on Sunday.
This is a significant move at a time when several states are insisting on vaccination certificates for inter-state travel and many establishments are hosting people only if they have the proof of vaccination. The WhatsApp option has now provided people with an easier alternative to getting the certificates from the CoWIN vaccination portal, which has suffered glitches on several occasions.
The office of Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said anyone who wants to download the certificate can send a WhatsApp message to a number and receive it.
