New Delhi: With a surge of 311 new fatalities, the death toll of India escalated to 9,195, pushing India to 9th position in the world in terms of fatalities. India also witnessed a record spike in its coronavirus cases with nearly 12,000 fresh cases within 24 hours, taking its overall positive tally to 3,20,922. However, on a positive note, India has maintained a good recovery rate and the total number of recovered patients is more than the active cases in the country. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, “311 deaths and highest single-day spike of 11,929 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the country is now at 3,20,922 including 1,49,348 active cases, 1,62,379 cured/discharged/migrated and 9195 deaths.” Also Read: Covid-19 Cases Surge Past 7.7 Million Grim Milestone, Over 5,000 People Succumb To Lethal Virus In Last 24 Hours Worst-Hit States: In Maharashtra, more than 51,000 infected people are undergoing treatment in hospitals. It is followed by national capital Delhi at second position , Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the maximum number of active cases. India at 4th position in terms of overall cases: India on Friday became the fourth worst-hit county in terms of infection spread , after surpassing the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that "India is not in community transmission. However, we have to continue with our strategy of testing, tracing, tracking, quarantine and containment measures.” US, Brazil and Russia remain the worst-hit countries so far.
