The rise of 10,956 cases, just 44 short of the 11,000-mark is so far the highest single-day rise recorded by India. The reported 396 deaths, is also the highest figure of fatalities in 24 hours. Along with this, India has now also surpassed the United Kingdom and has become the 4th worst-hit country.
Total cases near 3 lakh:
Total number of cases in the country neared 3 lakh-mark with overall 297535 positive cases. The number of active cases is 141842, including the 147195 cured/discharged/migrated cases, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The death toll rose to 8498 on Friday.
Worst-Hit States:
In Maharashtra, more than 47 thousand infected people are undergoing treatment in hospitals. It is followed by national capital Delhi at second position , Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the maximum number of active cases.

India overtakes UK, Now at 4th position globally in Coronavirus cases
India has climbed a step up in World Health Organisation’s list of countries affected by the pandemic. By Thursday India was India was trailing UK by a difference of just 3,568 Covid-19 positive cases. With Friday’s record sure of nearly 11000 new cases, India has now surpassed UK’s tally. India has 297535 cases now whereas UK has 290,147 cases.
However, in terms of deaths, India is far behind the UK. As many as 8,498 people have died of Coronavirus in India, which is far behind UK’s tally of 41,128 deaths.
Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that "India is not in community transmission. However, we have to continue with our strategy of testing, tracing, tracking, quarantine and containment measures.”
