Coronavirus Lockdown In India HIGHLIGHTS Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announces 1st structural reform; says Government monopoly in coal sector being abolished; Commercial mining on revenue sharing basis to be brought in to the sector. FM Nirmala Sitharaman, in her press briefing, announced that 500 mining blocks would be offered through an open and transparent auction process, a joint auction of Bauxite & Coal mineral blocks will be introduced to enhance Aluminum industry's competitiveness. According to data, India has 85949 cases whereas China has over 82000 cases. As many as 24 labourers died in a major accident in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya while several were left injured, after a collision between truck and bus in the wee hours of Saturday. Coronavirus in Punjab Update-
Over 400 coronavirus patients were discharged from different hospitals after recovering from the disease in Punjab on Saturday, officials said.
With the discharge of 444 patients, the total number of cured patients reached 1,257, as per the medical bulletin.
Coronavirus in Maharashtra Update-
Maharashtra recorded 1,606 new COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths, taking the case count to 30,706 and the number of the fatalities to 1,135, state Health department said. A total of 524 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the total number of the recovered cases to 7,088, a statement said.
'Of the 67 deaths, 41 died in Mumbai, seven each in Thane and Pune, five in Aurangabad, three in Jalgaon, two in Mira Bhayander, and one each in Nashik and Solapur,' the release said.
While 22 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, the rest had taken place between April 14 and May 14, taking the overall death toll to 1135, it stated.
Coronavirus in Haryana Update-
A total of 887 positive cases have been found in the state till date, including 514 recovered/discharged and 13 deaths: Health Department, Government of Haryana

Coronavirus in Gujarat Update-
In last 24 hours, 348 new positive cases of COVID-019 have been reported in Gujarat. The state tally rises to 10,989 including 4308 cured/discharged cases and 625 deaths till date: Gujarat Health Department.
Punjab CM Amrinder Singh has said that the lockdown in the state will continue after May 18 regardless of central government's decision. CM Singh says that it was necessary to increase the lockdown period due to the spread of the deadly virus. However, the Punjab state government has decided to lift the curfew restrictions.

Centre Tells States To Distribute Free Ration To 8 Cr Migrants Within 15 Days
As hundreds of migrants continue to travel a long distance in this COVID-19 crisis, Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday appealed to state governments to immediately lift food grains and pulses from the godowns and distribute them for free within a fortnight to 8 crore migrants who neither have centre nor state ration card.

The US tops the charts with more than 1.4 million cases, followed by Russia, UK, Spain, Italy and Brazil with over 200,000 cases each; and France, Germany, Turkey and Iran having over 100,000 cases each.
Going by the numbers declared by different states and union territories, India has now surpassed China's official tally of 82,933 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

US working with India on Covid-19 vaccine project: Trump
Launching "Operation Warp Speed" to ready a vaccine against Covid-19 by the end of the year, President Donald Trump said on Friday the US was working with India on the project.
"We are working very closely also with India," Trump said while speaking to reporters when he unveiled the project at the White House.
He also acknowledged the work of Indian-Americans on vaccine development projects.
There is a "tremendous Indian population in the United States, many of the people you are talking about are working on the vaccine too. Great scientists and researchers," he said.

The problem of the movement of migrant labourers seems to be only aggravating in India, particularly after the recent accidents with them in about a week's time. On Saturday, as many as 24 migrant laboureres have been reported dead in a major road mishap in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya , while several have been injured. Previously, two major road accidents took place in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh which killed several migrant labourers on their way home.

Tragic ! 23 labourers dead dead after 2 trucks collide in Auraiya, UP Twenty one labourers have died and several are reported injured after the truck they were travelling in, collided with another truck in Auraiya. The injured have been shifted to hospital. They were coming from Rajasthan. The incident took place at around 3:30 am. Around 15-20 have suffered injuries. Most of them are from Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman completed all the three phases of her press conference, as she detailed out the third tranche of government's economic package focussing on agriculture and allied activities. Her first briefing was largely about the relief measures for poor, MSMEs and salaried individuals. On Friday, Sitharaman announced 11 measures focussing on agriculture and allied activities, of which 8 related to strengthening infrastructure, capacities and building better logistics, while the rest 3 pertained to governance and administrative reforms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a massive financial package of Rs 20 lakh crore to revive, reform and make the country self-reliant, while at the same time welcoming foreign capital and strengthening of supply chains .Besides, the Prime Minister announced stimulus measures which will take the total amount announced by the Ministry of Finance and the RBI to a total of Rs 20 lakh crore or 10 per cent of the GDP. The Prime Minister also announced the fourth extension of the nationwide lockdown starting from May 18. He said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will elaborate on the allotment of the financial package which is equal to 10% of India's GDP. He also pitched for the use of products manufactured in the country, saying the novel coronavirus outbreak has taught us the importance of local manufacturing, local market and local supply chain.
