Coronavirus in India: India witnessed over 19,000 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, keeping up this week’s streak of recording over 18k fresh cases daily. The total number of fatalities reported in last 24 hours remained above 400. With this the overall cases in India have jumped over 6 lakh-mark. As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has seen 434 deaths and 19,148 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

“Positive cases in India stand at 6,04,641 including  2,26,947 active cases, 3,59,860 cured/discharged/migrated & 17834 deaths, it said.

However, the recovery rate of India has improved and it is almost 60% now with around 3.6 lakh  cured cases.

As per Health Ministry’s to statistics, there are currently 2.26 lakh corona cases in the country. The most number of active cases are present in Maharashtra with over 79000 patients receiving undergoing treatment in hospitals. Delhi is at second place, Tamil Nadu at third spot, Gujarat at fourth and West Bengal at fifth. These five states have the most active cases. Globally, India is the fourth country with most number of active cases of Coronavirus.

WHO: Global cases estimate

The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated the overall number of coronavirus cases globally at 10,357,662, with 508,055 people having died from the disease. The UN health agency said in the situation report published on late Wednesday that 163,939 new cases had been recorded in the past day, while further 4,188 patients had died.

Americas continue to lead the count with over 5.2 million cases, followed by Europe with more than 2.7 million.

Covid-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic on March 11. Since then several countries have tried to bring their population to a standstill to stop the spread of covid-19 and this has impacted the world economy severely. Several countries which have gained control over the transmission of the virus as now gradually opening up their economies.
