“There is no community spread in Tamil Nadu till now. Coronavirus has been curtailed in many districts of the state. Since Chennai is densely populated the spread of the virus is more there,” said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, according to the news agency ANI.
“We don't hide the number of deaths, we won't gain anything if we do that,” added the Chief Minister.
According to an IANS report, the work on reconciliation of Covid-19 death figures in Chennai has already begun with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has now jumped to 2,86,579. With as many as 357 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 8,102. Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 94,041 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (36,841) and Delhi (32,810).
According to the figures, there are currently 1, 37 lakh active corona cases in the country. The most active cases are in Maharashtra with more than 46,000 infected people being treated in hospitals. After this, Delhi is at number two, Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the most active cases.
