New Delhi: With 6,566 fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has now reached 1,58,333. According to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, the total active cases have reached 86110. With 194 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has also risen to 4531. The number of people who have recovered from the infection has reached 67691.


The state with the highest number of cases continues to be Maharashtra with 56948 cases. On Wednesday, the state recorded 105 new fatalities and the death toll has reached 1897. Tamil Nadu (18545), Gujarat (15195), and Delhi (15257) follow closely.

As migrant workers and other travellers reach their native states many places are recording fresh cases. The Northeast especially has seen a surge in cases after months of very low numbers. Assam now has 781 cases and Nagaland which had so far been free of coronavirus cases now has recorded 4 cases. Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya has also seen an increase in numbers.  Bihar (3061) and Uttar Pradesh (6991) is also seeing a rise in the total number of cases.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has tested a total of 3362136 samples and 119976 samples in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health has maintained that the recovery rate in the country constantly improving and on Tuesday had said that it was 41.61 percent in the fourth phase of lockdown whereas when the lockdown had started it was just 7.10 percent. Globally India is the tenth worst affected country and stands after Turkey which has a total of 1,59,797 cases.
