Coronavirus: 187 New COVID-19 Cases In Maharashtra; State Tally Surges Past 1700-Mark

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 1761 cases, followed by Delhi (1069), Tamil Nadu (969), Rajasthan (700)and Telangana (504).

New Delhi:  The latest figures released from the Union Health Ministry show that the total number of Coronavirus cases in India has jumped to 8,356, after 909 new cases reported in the past 24 hours. The nation-wide lockdown could be extended beyond April 14 as the frequency of surge in the COVID-19 infection is spreading at an alarming level. The death toll from COVID-19 has soared to 273 while 715 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged. Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 1761 cases, followed by Delhi (1069), Tamil Nadu (969), Rajasthan (700)and Telangana (504). The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra reached 1,761 with 187 new patients being detected. A state health department statement also said that 17 Coronavirus patients died during the day, including 12 in Mumbai. Consequently, Maharashtra is clearly the biggest hotspot for novel Coronavirus cases in India. Also Watch: Moreover, the disturbing fact than the total number of cases is the high number of people who have died due to COVID-19 in Maharashtra. As per the Union Health Ministry's data, 127 people have died in Maharashtra due to COVID-19 so far. This is the highest in the country and is nearly 49 percent of the country's total death toll. Till now 36,771 persons have been tested in the state so far. As many as 208 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals. At present 38,800 persons are in-home quarantine and 4,964 in institutional quarantine. As of 8 April, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reportedly stated 241 containment zones in the city. The areas with a high number of COVID-19 cases are completely sealed off with no outdoor or indoor movement sanctioned and people asked to stay inside their homes. Across the world, the total number of Coronavirus cases have reached 17.76 lakh, according to Johns Hopkins University. With over 5 lakh cases, the US has been the worst affected country, followed by Spain (1.63 lakh), Italy (1.52 lakh), France (1.3 lakh) and Germany (1.25 lakh).
