Mumbai: Another 143 passengers on board the Cordelia cruise ship have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai in addition to the 60 others who are already infected with the virus, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
Forty-one infected passengers of the ship, which returned to Mumbai from Goa on Tuesday, have so far been shifted to institutional quarantine facilities.
Dr Mangala Gomare, executive health officer, BMC, told PTI that the civic body has received RT-PCR test reports of all 1,827 passengers on board the ship, which returned to Mumbai from Goa on Tuesday evening, and 143 of them have tested positive for Covid-19.
According to reports, BMC has only disembarked Covid-19 positive people from the ship and did not allow any other passenger to get off.
Seven-day home quarantine will be mandatory for the passengers whose RT-PCR test reports will come out negative.
So far, 203 people on board the luxury cruiseliner have tested positive for Coronavirus in Mumbai. Six crew members who had tested positive were disembarked in Goa.
The ship was sent back to Mumbai from Goa with all the passengers on Monday night after some of the infected persons refused to get admitted to a medical facility there, an official from a shipping agency had told news agency PTI earlier.
Soon after the cruise liner anchored at a passenger terminal in Ballard Pier in south Mumbai on Tuesday, BMC and police personnel immediately reached the spot to facilitate disembarkment of infected people and coronavirus testing of other passengers.
Adequate police force has been deployed outside the cruise terminal to avoid any law and order issue.
