'Congress Mein Anpadhon Ki Jamaat Hai': Ghulam Nabi Azad Hits Back, Says Rahul Entangled With Modi 'Not Me'

Referring to G23 letter Ghulam Nabi Azad said that “they had an issue” since that letter was written.

New Delhi: Former Union minister and Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday trained his guns against the party, from which he resigned last week  targeting Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi saying that they never wanted anyone to question them. Referring to the G23 letter that Azad and his colleagues had written to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi suggesting reforms within the party, he said that “they had an issue” since that letter was written.

Following his resignation from the party on Friday, the Congress slammed Azad linking his resignation to the end of his Rajya Sabha tenure. The party had also alleged that his DNA has been “Modi-fied”.

“Modi is an excuse, they have had an issue with me since the G23 letter was written. They never wanted anyone to write to them, question them... Several (Congress) meetings happened, but not even a single suggestion was taken,” said former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, quoted by news agency PTI.

He also took a jibe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi saying that the latter is the one “who is entangled with Modi” and not him, referring to the incident where Wayanad MP hugged PM Modi in the Parliament.

On being asked if he'll go with BJP if needed after forming a new party, Azad said, "Congress mein anpadhon ki jamaat hai (Congress has a group of illiterates), especially those sitting for clerical work. Those who know Jammu and Kashmir, I can't increase even one vote in BJP's constituencies, they can't do it in mine."

“We tried to make him (Rahul Gandhi) a successful leader but he’s not interested,” he said.

"My respect for Sonia Gandhi is the same as 30 years back, respect for Rahul Gandhi is the same as that befitting Indira Gandhi's family,Rajiv-Sonia Gandhi's son. Personally,I pray for his long life. We tried to make him a successful leader but he's not interested," Azad said.
