Congress has appointed Gaurav Gogoi as the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and a letter about the decision has been sent to Speaker Om Birla.
Party's Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker informing him about the appointment of the deputy leader, chief whip, and two whips for the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, AICC general secretary organization K C Venugopal said on X.
Moreover, eight-time MP from Kerala Kodikunnil Suresh will be the party's chief whip, he said, adding Virudhunagar MP Manickam Tagore and Kishanganj MP Mohammad Jawed will be the party's whips in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, party leader Rahul Gandhi was appointed the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
“Guided by LoP Rahul Gandhi ji, the Congress and INDIA parties will energetically champion the people's causes in the Lok Sabha,” Venugopal said.
Gogoi won the Lok Sabha polls from Jorhat constituency defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Topon Kumar Gogoi by a margin of 1,44,393 votes. He was the deputy leader of the party in the previous session of Lok Sabha as well after being elected from Kaliabor constituency. Following delimitation, he was assigned the task of taking on the BJP in Jorhat, which became a stronghold of the ruling party over the last 10 years.
The Congress leader has been a member of several House committees, such as the Standing Committee on Railways, the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Committee on Violation of Protocol Norms and Contemptuous Behaviour of Government Officers with Members of Lok Sabha.
Gaurav was re-elected to the Lower House for the second consecutive term from Kaliabor in 2019.
