CWC Meet: A heated argument took place between Congress leader Anand Sharma and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet today. Commenting on the growing dissatisfaction within party, Gehlot asked whether or not those leaders who have been raising repeated demands of elections, have faith in the leadership of the party.


On the other hand, Anand Sharma raised the demand for conduct of a poll in order to elect members of the CWC.


There has been a section of leaders within the party raising demands for having a full-time and active party president and an organisational overhaul.

The party has again postponed internal elections by five months till May 29, and Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the interim party president till then. After Lok Sabha poll debacle of Congress last year, Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of party president, after which Sonia Gandhi was given the responsibility of interim president.


Last month to address the concerns of the party leaders, Sonia Gandhi held a series of meetings with the section of senior leaders who had written to her in the last four months demanding a structural overhaul in the grand old party and effective and full-time leadership.


Parliament was denied opportunity to examine farm laws: Sonia


During the crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting here, she said it was abundantly clear that the three farm laws were prepared in 'haste and Parliament was consciously denied an opportunity to examine in any meaningful detail the implications and impact'.


Sonia Gandhi also raised the economic issue and said that the economic situation remains grim and large parts of the economy like MSME and the informal sector have been decimated with the government refusing to extend a lifeline.
