Congress chooses BK Hariprasad as its candidate for Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman election
The Bharatiya Janta Party on the other hand is likely to plump for JD (U)Harivansh Narayan Singh; who would represent NDA.
New Delhi: The Congress has chosen BK Hariprasad as its candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Hariprasad is a MP representing Karnataka in the upper house of the parliament.
Hariprasad, who is also a General Secretary of All India Congress Committee and lost election to BJP leader Ananth Kumar in Bengaluru South; will file his nomination post 9:45 am meeting at Ghulam Nabi's residence.
Hariprasad is currently in charge General Secretary for the forthcoming assembly elections in Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The Bharatiya Janta Party on the other hand is likely to plump for JD (U)Harivansh Narayan Singh; who would represent NDA.
The voting for the Deputy Chairman post in the Rajya Sabha is set to take place on Thursday.
Of total 245 seats; NDA holds 115 seats, UPA holds 113 seats, other parties hold 16 seats and 1 seat is empty. Now, for majority a party needs 125 seats; which near UPA nor NDA has; therefore other parties will be in focus during the voting.
The post of the Deputy Chairman has been lying vacant since June this year following the retirement of P J Kurien, who was elected to the Upper House of Parliament on a Congress ticket from Kerala.
