New Delhi: BJP leader Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari received criticism over a tweet posted on his account over the death of Sitaram Yechury's elder son Ashish Yechury, who passed away early morning on Thursday after being infected with Covid-19.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury had taken to Twitter to reveal the sad news of his son's passing away. Ashish was admitted to Holy Family hospital two weeks ago and was later shifted to Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital.

A rather insensitive remark appeared on BJP leader Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari's Twitter account. The tweet translates to: "China supporter CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury's son Ashish Yechury passed away due to Chinese Corona".

This lead to a lot of backlash with netizens and celebrities calling out the BJP Bihar Vice president for the comment.

However, presenting a clarification on the same, Mithilesh Kumar Tiwari wrote: "With political malfeasance, my handle was hacked and a highly insensitive tweet was posted. The tweet was deleted as soon as the matter came to cognizance. I convey my condolences to CPM leader Shri Sitaram Yechury ji. Petty politics on anyone's death is always condemnable".

Several political leaders had earlier today extended condolences to Sitaram Yechury his family over Ashish's death.

Sitaram Yechury tweeted to thank people for their support as he wrote: "I bid goodbye to my son, Ashish (Biku) at noon today.  I thank all of you who have shared our sorrow. I thank everybody who gave us strength to be able to face this dark hour. I know that I am not alone in my grief, with this pandemic consuming countless lives."
