New Delhi: Terrorists killed a civilian and a policeman in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday in two separate incidents. 


While the civilian, Rouf Ahmad, was shot in Nawakadal locality of Srinagar, terrorists opened fire on a police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir's Anantnag district. The ASI, identified as Mohammad Ashraf, succumbed to his injuries at Bijbehara hospital.

Taking to Twitter, Kashmir Police said, "Injured ASI Mohd Ashraf succumbed to his injuries & attained martyrdom. We stand by his family at this critical juncture."






"At about 6 pm, terrorists fired at and critically injured a civilian namely Rouf Ahmad near his residence in Nawakadal area of Srinagar," Kashmir Police said. Rouf Ahmad was shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.


The areas have been cordoned off and search launched to nab the attackers, PTI reported.


Earlier, police personnel was on Sunday shot at by terrorists at Bandzawoo in Jammu & Kashmir's Pulwama. Later, Jammu and Kashmir police informed that terrorists fired at police personnel Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay near his house in the Bandzoo area of Pulwama. He received gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.


J-K LG & Political Parties Reaction On J-K Terror Assault


Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and various political parties denounced the death of a police officer and a civilian by terrorists in two separate instances in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.


"Deeply saddened by the barbaric and cowardly terrorist act in Srinagar and Anantnag. I strongly condemn this heinous attack on civilian Rouf Ahmad & JKP officer Mohd Ashraf. The terrorists and their handlers responsible for these killings will be brought to justice soon," Sinha tweeted.






Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC), also denounced the assaults.


"Allah marhoom ko magfirat farmaye Ameen. I unreservedly condemn these two attacks & send my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives today," he tweeted.






The BJP's J&K branch also denounced the officer's death, calling it "barbaric." Altaf Thakur, a party spokesperson, claimed it was an act of desperation, adding that militants are furious and targeting defenceless police officers.
