Chandigarh University Video Leak Case: 3 Accused Sent To Seven-Day Police Remand

The three accused were arrested and produced in Kharar court near Mohali where the police had demanded 10-day remand.

The three accused arrested in the Chandigarh University video leak case were sent to seven-day police remand by a court on Monday. While seeking their remand, the police also informed the court that for recovering the video their mobile phones will be sent for forensic investigation, reported news agency ANI

The accused were produced in Kharar court near Mohali where the police had demanded 10-day remand but the court granted seven-day police remand.

This comes after protests rocked the university campus in Punjab's Mohali. Students alleged that a student made objectionable videos of women students in the common washroom. The videos were allegedly also posted on social media.

The protesting students had claimed that after the videos went viral, some girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide. 

However, the claim was refuted by the police. The university authorities, also dismissed these allegations as "false and baseless", as reported by PTI.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Sandeep Sharma, the counsel for the accused, said there were two videos – one of the woman accused and the other of some other girl.

When asked about allegations against the woman student that she made objectionable videos of some students, Sharma said it is a matter of investigation, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the setting up of a three-member-all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police officials to probe the incident that has rocked the university campus.

Senior IPS officer Gurpreet Kaur Deo will lead the investigation, reported ANI. 

"SIT will go to the bottom of the conspiracy. No person is to be spared if found involved. One student and two others were arrested. Thanks to DGP Himachal Pradesh for excellent co-operation. Electronic devices were seized and sent for forensic examination," said DGP Punjab, Gaurav Yadav As reported by the news agency.
