BSP's Danish Ali Writes To LS Speaker, Claims Violations Of Parliamentary Procedures By Two Panels: Report

BSP MP Danish Ali has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla claiming violation of parliamentary procedures by two committees.

Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla flagging alleged violations of parliamentary procedures by two committees, reported PTI quoting sources as saying on Saturday. The first committee concerns with the Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ramesh Bidhuri for using defamatory language against Ali and the other one is regarding the allegations by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.

In his letter, referring to the notice of breach of privilege against Bidhuri for using defamatory remarks against Ali in Lok Sabha, the BSP MP said that the established procedure requires that the complainant member is called before the Privileges Committee first and then the accused member.

But in contravention of norms, the member who is accused of making unparliamentary remarks against him appears to have been called first, alleged Ali in his letter according to the PTI report.

He also claimed that as the complainant, he is yet to put forth his stance in front of the committee.

Ali requested Birla to direct officials to call him first before the Privileges Committee to give evidence against Bidhuri, the report added.

The BJP MP from South Delhi made the defamatory statement against Ali during a discussion on the success of Chandrayaan-3 in the Lok Sabha last month.

In the same letter, Ali said that the Ethics Committee — of which he is a member — appears to have followed the proper procedure by first calling BJP MP Nishikant Dubey to give oral evidence against TMC member Mahua Moitra in the 'cash-for-query' scam.

However, he said that the committee chairman spoke with the media about the receipt of the affidavit filed by businessman Darshan Hiranandani, saying it was against rules.

Moitra has been caught up in a controversy after Dubey accused the Lok Sabha member from Krishnanagar in West Bengal of taking bribes from Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament.

The Ethics Committee has called Dubey for oral evidence on October 26.
