The Consulate General of India in Atlanta strongly condemned the tragic attack on a 25-year-old Indian student, stating that US authorities have apprehended the suspects and are investigating the issue. Vivek Saini, who recently received an MBA in the United States, was killed by a homeless drug addict whom he had been assisting for the last few days in Lithonia, Georgia.
Taking to X, the Indian Consulate stated: “We are deeply anguished by the terrifying, brutal, & heinous incident that led to the death of Indian National/student Mr Vivek Saini & condemns attack in the strongest terms. It is understood that the US authorities have arrested the accused & are investigating the case."
It said that the Consulate contacted Saini's family promptly following the incident, gave all consular help in returning the dead remains to India, and continued to communicate with the family.
The horrific event was captured on video when attacker Julian Faulkner ruthlessly beat Saini in the head about 50 times with a hammer.
Saini, a part-time staffer at the business that housed Faulkner, had been courteous to him for over two days, giving him chips, a coke, water, and even a jacket for warmth, according to M9 News Channel on Sunday, PTI reported.
However, Saini was attacked on his way home on January 16 after requesting that Faulkner leave or risk police involvement.
When police arrived at the site, they discovered Faulkner standing over Saini's motionless corpse. The young student, who had moved to the United States two years ago after finishing his B Tech, just received a Master's degree in Business Administration.
Saini's family in Haryana mourns the death of the bright young man, describing him as a great student looking for a good career.
His parents, Gurjeet Singh and Lalita Saini, are distraught and unwilling to address the unfortunate occurrence.
