Background

Breaking News LIVE, October 15, 2021: Hello and welcome to ABP News LIVE Breaking News Blog! President of India Ram Nath Kovind will celebrate Dussehra this year with the soldiers of the Indian Army in Ladakh's Drass area, one of the coldest places in the world. The President is in Ladakh for a two-day visit (14-15 October).

With this, the President will be breaking away from the tradition where he is usually seen participating in Dussehra celebrations in the national capital, Delhi, every year.

In other news, the Prime Minister, along with the defense minister will address the nation to dedicate 'seven defense companies to the nation on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami.'

The government has planned to convert Ordnance Factory Board from a Government Department into seven 100 percent government-owned corporate entities, as a measure to improve self-reliance in the defense preparedness of the country.

Apart from that, India was re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2022-24 term for the sixth consecutive time. "I am truly delighted at this overwhelming support for India in elections to Human Rights Council," India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador TS Tirumurti told PTI.

The condition of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is improving, the doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said. Singh, 89, was admitted to the hospital in Delhi for evaluation of fever.
