Srinagar, Nov 8 (PTI): Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was among 49 cities worldwide to join the UNESCO creative cities network (UCCN) on Monday.
The 49 cities were added to the network of 246 cities following their designation by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, in recognition of "their commitment to placing culture and creativity at the heart of their development and to sharing knowledge and good practices".
According to a release posted on the UNESCO site, the network now numbers 295 cities reaching 90 countries that invest in culture and creativity crafts and folk art, design, film, gastronomy, literature, media arts, and music to advance sustainable urban development.
A new urban model needs to be developed in every city, with its architects, town planners, landscapers and citizens, said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
We are urging everyone to work with States to reinforce the international cooperation between cities which UNESCO wishes to promote, he added.
While Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU) had recommended Srinagar and Gwalior for inclusion in the coveted list, only Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital made it.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu took to Twitter to announce Srinagar's inclusion in the list. "GREAT NEWS FOR SRINAGAR! #Srinagar has been inscribed as @UNESCO 'Creative City of Art and Craft'.The the only city from India to make it to the list!" Mattu claimed.
However, Mumbai and Hyderabad are already in the network, having made it to the list in October 2019.
National Security Advisors (NSA) of seven countries have confirmed their participation in 'Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan' on 10 November 2021. ANI reports, countries participating in the 'Delhi Regional Security Dialogue' would include Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Participating NSA’s will also jointly call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Pakistan government has lifted the ban on the extremist group Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as a quid pro quo to the outfit calling off the recent anti-government protests that claimed the lives of over 20 people, half of them police personnel.
The TLP was declared as a proscribed organisation in April this year after violent protests by the group to force the government to expel the French ambassador over the issue of blasphemous cartoons published in France.
The government, which recently struck a secret agreement with the TLP, on Sunday issued a formal notification to remove the hardline Islamist party from the list of proscribed organisations after the TLP committed to behave and follow the law in the future.
In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (I) of Section 11U of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 (as amended), the federal government is pleased to remove the name of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan from the First Schedule of the said Act as a proscribed organisation for the purpose of the said Act, reads the notification, which has been seen by the PTI.

Biometric attendance in government offices will resume from Monday, after being discontinued due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. As the issue is "very urgent", the party cannot wait till the end of Chhat puja and Jagaddhatri puja for commencement of the movement, Banerjee said.
A special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police left for the Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak on Monday morning to question Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in connection with a 2015 sacrilege case.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is lodged in the Sunaria jail since his conviction in 2017 for raping two of his disciples.
The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was named as an accused in the theft of a "bir" (copy) of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs.
The four-member SIT, led by Inspector General SPS Parmar, left for the Sunaria jail from Rajpura in the morning, officials said.
The other members of the team are Senior Superintendent of Police M S Bhullar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lakhvir Singh and Inspector Dalbir Singh.
"It is a process of investigation which we are taking forward," Parmar told reporters before leaving for Rohtak.

Aided by cyclonic circulation during monsoon, Chennai and nearby regions experienced intense rains in about 24 hours, leading to inundation of most areas here on Sunday and opening up of sluice gates of three city reservoirs to let out surplus water. Since the start of the Northeast monsoon in October, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions have experienced about 43 per cent excess rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy rains lashing the city in about 24 hours comes after about six years, while other regions of Tamil Nadu received mild, and or moderate rainfall. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Spoke to Tamil Nadu CM, Thiru @mkstalin and discussed the situation in the wake of heavy rainfall in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre in rescue and relief work. I pray for everyone's well-being and safety." Chief Minister M K Stalin inspected several inundated areas here along with top officials including Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu and directed authorities to take swift action to drain flood water.
Stalin, along with cabinet colleagues distributed flood assistance, including rice, milk, and blankets to people in affected areas, housed in temporary shelters here. He directed officials to expedite rescue and relief work.
The government declared holidays for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpet districts on November 8 and 9.
Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will, through video conferencing at 3:30 pm on Monday, lay the foundation stone for four-laning of two key roads in Maharashtra: five sections of Shri Sant Dnyaneshshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg (National Highway 965) and three sections of Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg (NH-965G). The project will be undertaken to facilitate people's movement to the pilgrimage town of Pandharpur in the western state, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) noted in a press release.
“Pandharpur has a special place in the hearts and minds of many. The Temple there draws people from all sections of society, from all over India. I will join a programme relating to Pandharpur's infra needs,” PM Modi said in a tweet on Sunday.
