Breaking News LIVE: Delhi HC Refuses To Entertain PIL For Urgent Implementation Of Women's Reservation Bill

The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) urging to urgently implement the Women's Reservation Bill, 2023, ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, as reported by news agency IANS.


The Union Government, represented by Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, informed the court that the Bill has become an Act. “It is an exercise after the census. It has been engrafted under the Act. It has been debated in the parliament...This is a publicity litigation,” the ASG said, as quoted by IANS.

Breaking News LIVE: North Korea Fires 'Unspecified Ballistic Missile' Toward East Sea For 2nd Day

North Korea fired an unspecified ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Monday, the South Korean military said, just hours after it launched a short-range missile, amid speculation the latest one could be an intercontinental ballistic missile.


The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected the launch but did not give further details, Yonhap news agency reported. North Korea fired a short-range missile from in or around Pyongyang at 10:38 p.m. Sunday, and it flew about 570 km before splashing into the East Sea, according to the JCS.

'One Nation, One Election': Kovind Panel To Meet On Monday


The high-level committee on 'One Nation, One Election' under former president Ram Nath Kovind is learned to be meeting on Monday to review the progress made so far, including on the responses by political parties to the idea of holding simultaneous polls.


Sources told PTI that while no written agenda has been circulated for the "informal" meeting, it could discuss the responses received from political parties.


The committee had in its first meeting decided to seek the views of political parties.


The panel had also recently written to the parties seeking their views and interaction on a "mutually agreed date". It later sent a reminder to the parties eliciting their response.


Letters were sent to six national parties, 33 state parties, and seven registered unrecognised parties inviting their suggestions on 'One Nation, One Election'.


President Murmu To Visit West Bengal, Telangana and Rajasthan From Dec 18-23


President Droupadi Murmu will visit West Bengal, Telangana, and Rajasthan from December 18 to 23 to attend different programmes, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said on Sunday.


On December 18, the President will attend the 69th convocation of IIT Kharagpur in West Bengal and later arrive at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Telangana's Secunderabad, the statement said.


On December 19, Murmu will grace the centenary celebrations of the Hyderabad Public School Society.


She will visit the handloom and spinning unit as well as the theme pavilion of the Ministry of Textiles at Pochampally in Telangana on December 20. She will also interact with weavers on the occasion.


On the same day, she will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of MNR Educational Trust in Secunderabad.


On December 21, President Murmu will inaugurate various projects at Rashtrapati Nilayam. She will host an At Home reception at Rashtrapati Nilayam for dignitaries, including leading citizens of the state and academics, etc. on December 22.


"On December 23, the President will witness the live firing exercise at Pokhran, Rajasthan," the statement said.
