Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Saturday said six more cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in the state. This takes the state's tally of Omicron cases to fourteen.
Meanwhile, four more new cases of the Omicron variant were detected from Kerala on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 11, the state health department said.
Ex-Supreme Court judge Justice Girish Thakorlal Nanavati, who headed the panel of 1984 anti-Sikh and the 2002 Godhra riots cases, passed away on Saturday at the age of 86.
According to reports, the former Judge passed away a cardiac failure earlier in the day.
Amid the ongoing surge in Omicron cases in Maharashtra, the BMC on Saturday instructed people to avoid crowding and follow Covid guidelines.
It said that strict action will be taken against offenders. People will be allowed up to 50 per cent capacity in closed spaces and 25 per cent in open spaces. Prior permission will be required for a gathering of more than 1,000 people.
"18 students of a school in Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, have tested Covid-19 positive, out of more than 950 students who've been tested. The school will be shut for the next week and remaining students will be tested at their residences today," NMMC Commissioner Abhijit Bangar told news agency ANI.
The source student's father had a travel history to Qatar but had tested negative upon RT-PCR. The student's sample has been sent for genome sequencing. All close contacts of COVID positive students are to be traced for testing.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh today. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) shared this information in a statement.
The Ganga Expressway will begin from near Bijauli village of Meerut and will go to Judapur Dandu village of Prayagraj. Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav has been attacking PM Modi. He said, "Ganga Expressway project was started by Mayawati Ji. These people (BJP) are laying the foundation stone of the project started by Mayawati," to ANI.

Maharashtra has reported 40 cases, Delhi (22), Rajasthan (17), Karnataka (8), Telangana (8), Gujarat (5), Kerala (7), Andhra Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and West Bengal (1), PTI reported.
